about
The idea of musicians being a conduit for something bigger than themselves is nothing new. Art is often credited to a variety of supernatural beings such as deities or relatives from the past. Chong the Nomad touches on this idea with her new single “Ghosts in the Shower”. A duet of sorts, Ghosts in the Shower was born from a post-work haze encounter with a singing ghost in her bathroom. A cartoonishly buoyant yet simple pop lullaby, GITS is reminiscent of a song internet-born collective “Superorganism” would create. But instead of eight members, this superorganism consists of Chong, a mic, some production software, and an overactive imagination. The simplicity of the lyrics are highlighted by a wonderfully distorted kick and some fiercely original sounding arpeggiated chimes. We now too believe in Ghosts.
lyrics
Got ghosts in the shower
Ghosts in the shower
Fog on the mirror
Got ghosts my shower
Got ghosts in the shower
Ghosts in the shower
Fog on the mirror
Got ghosts my shower
And every time I sing my tune that girl would sing
Got ghosts in the shower
Ghosts in the shower
Fog on the mirror
Got ghosts my shower
Got ghosts in the shower
Ghosts in the shower
Fog on the mirror
Got ghosts my shower
And every time I sing my tune that girl would sing
Ghosts in the shower
Ghosts in the shower
Fog on the mirror
Got ghosts my shower

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell

Lost track of these guys for a couple years, then saw the Tiny Desk concert come up in my feed. I've had the album on loop on Spotify since Friday.
This song in particular has been stuck in my head all afternoon. quiksilv26
